Our Commitment to Safety
Our vetting process for Backup Caregivers
Because backup caregivers need to be available on short notice, all of our backup caregivers have undergone in-depth vetting before being hired. For in-home backup child care providers, this includes:
- Child care reference checks
- Video or in-person interviews
- State/county criminal background checks (based on 7-year address history)
- National Sex Offender Public Website check
- U.S. work eligibility verification
In-network backup child care centers are all licensed in accordance with applicable laws.
Additionally, for in-home adult care, all of the agencies in Care.com's backup care network must:
- Perform a criminal background check on caregivers in accordance with state law
- Check at least two professional references
- Conduct a competency evaluation of each candidate
- Any CNAs/HHAs performing backup care services are licensed in accordance with applicable law
Enhanced Screening Process for the Care.com Membership Service
Over the course of 12 years, more than a million and a half families have successfully matched with care providers through Care.com. Since our founding, it has been our mission to provide accessible, high quality, safe and affordable care options for families.
CareCheck
As part of our continued commitment to innovation across our platform, we have announced plans for expansive safety enhancements in our Care.com Membership service. CareCheck launched in July 2019 and, today, caregivers enrolling on Care.com are subject to this new vetting standard. There are millions of caregivers who joined Care.com before CareCheck launched and it will take some time for us to complete the rollout of this program to all caregivers. We appreciate your patience as we establish the CareCheck standard across our platform. All caregivers who complete the CareCheck process will have a badge added to the Screening and Verifications section of their profile, so remember to look for the CareCheck badge when hiring.
