About Barbara

I am a retired special education teacher who worked primarily with learning disabled students in elementary grades. I served primarily as a Special Education Resource teacher, working with students individually and in small groups. I was often asked by parents to do private tutoring for their special needs children. As a tutor, my specialty is Language Arts. I have helped many students with difficulties with concepts, memory, and visual-motor skills. I am familiar with the special education process from initial referral to evaluation, IEP, planning and implementing lessons, and follow-up. I am comfortable with most subjects, aside from high school math. I prefer to work with students in their homes or mine (as long as students do not have allergies to pets). Tutoring for students, particularly elementary students, is most effective when delivered face-to-face.
