We have a senior dog (17 years in December) who can no longer stand on his back legs and also has slight dementia. He cannot get up by himself so needs help whenever he wants to be active, which means lifting him and strapping him into his cart, and watching to make sure he doesn't get stuck. He often urinates/defecates in his sleep (his bed always has a clean pee pad) or if we wakes up and has to go, he needs to be brought to the pee pad in the kitchen and supported and cleaned up. All that being said, there is nothing wrong with him, just old age; he has a big voice and will go live, and our vet has consistently said he has a great quality of life. Because he cannot be left unattended, my husband and I cannot leave the house together! We are just looking for someone to come for a few hours at a time on a weekly basis - he might sleep the whole time or be very active and require a lot of care, so we are looking for someone with experience and empathy with senior dogs.
