About who needs care: Progressing Alzheimer's. Recently lost her husband (and daily caregiver). Physically healthy, unable to drive/housebound without transportation assistance. Needs medications filled & reminders to take morning/night. Responds well to white board notes, little/no short term memory. Increasing confusion of normal/routine things. Generally unable to prepare meals, will make sandwiches and seek snacks/leftovers in the fridge. Has housekeeper 2x/mo and gardener 1x/mo. Family member is nearby and able to provide care part of the week, need part time relief/assistance, particularly during sun-downing hours when agitation seems higher.
Used to enjoy social events at the local senior church group, still desires to go to church and group settings but is hesitant due to insecurities about her difficulties in carrying conversations & remembering details. Resistant to leaving the house, including walks around her neighborhood. Her routine generally consists of waking up around 9am, getting the paper and doing the word search puzzle, dresses on her own (needs to be reminded to shower), will make toast if hungry, plays basic games on the computer (needs to be monitored for spam/scams), checks mail, does light gardening, has dinner around 5pm, light tv in the evening and bed around 8:30-9. Very routine driven.
About the care needs: Patience & thick skin :) there is significant repetitiveness, and worsening (as expected). She still has some sass and wit, she was a savvy business owner in her prime and is still capable of having stimulating conversations. She has very limited tech skills (basic phone, no cell phone or smart devices). She used to be an avid crocheter, shows interest when we bring over projects but wont partake.
She's been windowed 3 times, and laments over it on loop - often wondering why god is punishing her. Difficult to redirect her thoughts. She used to love traveling and cruising, attending game day at the senior center, organizing trips for the senior group, etc. I think any similar interests/personalities would mesh well with hers.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
