Companion Care Needed For My Loved One - Companion Caregiver/Per...

Full Time $25 – 40/hr Starts 01/13 San Diego, CA
About who needs care: Companion Caregiver/Personal Assistant needed for a young, 70-year-old female artist who continues to recover from a stroke. She is ambulatory and does NOT need help with any personal care. She does need stand-by assistance when climbing stairs and walking outside on unlevelled ground. Her large house is multi-level and there are stairs everywhere. Her assistant will stand behind her and spot her every time she uses the stairs. Candidates must be extreme cat/dog lovers and have their own, reliable transportation. Occasionally assistant will assemble lunch, but generally food is already prepared and only needs to be served. Looking for two personable assistants who will share a schedule so that we have consistent coverage, 7 days per week from approximately 9AM until 3PM. If we find a good fit, we might increase the hours to 9-5. Assistants will be paid weekly in cash. There will be a lot of downtime on this job. Perfect for a student who has studying to do or someone who likes to read or watch tv. Assistant will need to be attentive but will not have many responsibilities other than safety stand by assistance while client is walking and using the stairs. As my client regains her strength, she will want to resume working on her 5 acre property, caring for the cats who reside in her private rescue shelter, separate from her home. She has longtime employees who clean up after the cats and do the bulk of their care, but she enjoys feeding the cats. Once she is strong enough to do this, her assistant will accompany her and assist in feeding the cats. These cats are un-adoptable for health reasons or they are feral. My client rescues them before they are euthanized and allows them to enjoy the rest of their lives being well cared for. The cats do NOT live in her home. They live in barns/enclosed structures. Candidates must be agree to a background check which client will pay for. There may be a possibility for a live-in-option free rent and hourly pay. If this appeals to you, please bring it up when you apply. Thank you for your interest in this position. I look forward to talking with you. About the care needs: Assistants with an outgoing demeanor and good interpersonal skills are a plus. It is a bonus if they are interested in art/painting/sculpture and of course, cats. Client has one dog, a 120 pound German Shepherd. No specialized skills are needed because client is completely self sufficient with regards to self care/grooming, etc. In the beginning the assistant will need to use a gait belt just as a precaution when client is using stairs or walks out of doors. (assistant simply holds on to the belt behind the client as she walks or climbs stairs. If client is wobbly the assistant can correct using the belt. I hope this makes sense. It will not always be necessary. Client walks fine on level surfaces, we are being overly cautious because of the amount of stairs in her house.) Services needed include: transportation, and companionship.
