When I was in second grade, I found out that unlike the rest of my peers I would have to go to a special school because I was dyslexic. It took me a long time to realize that having a learning difference did not mean I was not smart. Furthermore, I have been able to use the skills I obtained at the school and I went to on succeed academically. I have recently graduated as a an honors student from Indiana University, Bloomington. I plan on dedicating my career to working with children. I know how it feels to feel inferior due to not understanding academic material, and my experience with dyslexia has taught me practical skills to overcome this barrier. In high school, I tutored inner city elementary and middle school students in math, English, history and any other homework that they had. In the summer of 2010, I went to Tanzania, and taught students in an orphanage English. This taught me how to use creativity when teaching students who had limited resources and did not know my language.
