About Thomas

My grandparents cared for my sisters & me when we were younger. They took us on so many day trips & even to Europe every summer. As they grew older I found our roles reversing & now I was caring for them & taking them places. I enjoyed doing this for my grandparents & I am certain I would enjoy helping other elderly individuals in need. When my grandparents were no longer able to care for themselves they moved in with us. While in high school I worked caring for my grandfather who had liver cirrhosis. I took him for dialysis, assisted with personal care, accompanied him to doctor visits, watched TV, played puzzles, I performed all the daily activities. Subsequently my grandmother developed dementia and OCD, & once again I became partly her care taker all while attending college. I also have a cousin with mental illness. I am the only one in the family who can calm him down and get him to reason. Its not so much the EMT training but rather my genuine empathetic and caring personality.
