I worked for my mom as a paid caregiver for approximately 1 year and a half. Her dementia was advancing and her mobility was also being affected to where she could no longer be left alone due to her falling often and needing moderate help getting in and out of the shower and getting dressed. I also helped her cook, clean house and buy her groceries. I assisted in taking her to her doctor's appointments and making sure she was taking her medication as specified by her doctors. I loved working for my mom, it was very rewarding. First because I knew she was well taken care of and second because I felt I was doing something in retribution for all the years she dedicated to my siblings and myself during the most trying times of our childhood. She is so fragile and helpless now that she has become like our child. I love being able to work with seniors. It makes me feel good to know that I am helping them live their elderly years with quality and dignity. We're only 1 step behind them.
