About Matthew

Hello, my name is Matt. Growing up, school was always my happy place. I loved to study and I worked hard to earn a near-perfect GPA for my engineering degree. Since graduating I have been a math, science, and writing teacher working with students aged 10-17. As a math teacher I taught in 2021 and was challenged to bring my students back up to speed after a year of remote learning. I worked hard to show concepts in a variety of ways beyond the way math is traditionally taught (which does not work for everyone). I worked to empower students with math trauma (yes, that exists) to adopt a growth mindset and embrace mistakes as a part of their learning. I showed them problems in a variety of modalities and encouraged creativity as much as correctness. I learned a great deal about being effective in the classroom, but I always offered my best teaching one on one. After my recent brief hiatus from teaching, I am excited to get back into tutoring.
