About Mary

I am a certified Spanish, English as a second language, and reading specialist. I have taught all ages for 30 years. I'd describe my personality as fun yet disciplined. I am focused and flexible. I like tutoring, because I like to make learning easier/fun. I use memory hooks and resources to make learning efficient. I'm looking for a job that provides a routine 1-2 times per week so results are manageable/sustainable. In my spare time, I like to walk, swim, read, listen to music, go to movies, and hang out with my daughter. One thing you should know is I have prepared students for high stakes tests, I have helped students achieve proficiency. I have seen great gains in young children with intervention and progress monitoring. My skills include data analysis and focused intervention plans. I scaffold instruction to find a student's optimal zone for learning. I can assess reading levels. With Spanish or English, I can approximate communication skills/fluency levels.
