I am not a certified care giver. I took classes to learn more about dementia. I took care of my mom for 10 years.

Earlene can be a good fit for certain types of clients. Her training is by experience, having dealt personally with care of a parent with diminished capacities. She has a few rough edges and might not be a good fit for all clients: probably not your first choice for a quiet, clinical, delicate style of care. But for a rapid-fire chatty style, with plenty of breaking news about the state of the cats and peculiar relatives, she might work out fine for your highly conversational loved one. She is capable of once-commonplace tasks that many younger helpers have never heard of: sewing buttons, setting hair curlers, proper care of cookware. She is quite reliable, except for a habit of showing up late -- though she routinely compensates for this by staying late to balance her hours. We hired her for three quarters over the last year, ending our arrangements when, at the end, we needed to change over to nursing home arrangements.
