About Doreen

Mother of two grown children and now an "empty Nester." Professional career, experience, education, and continuous training have been in Early Childhood Education. (0-7 years of age). My personal philosophy for children of this age group is wonderfully influenced by the power of play, nature, and the healthy preservation of childhood. I am an advocate of a nature-based curriculum with kindness and simplicity. I love to bake, sing and explore the power and beauty of play indoors and outdoors. I enjoy spending time outdoors in all weather, gardening, and exploring the natural world in one's neighborhood and the larger community. I have taught and directed in schools and daycare centers, lead parent-child playgroups, and have taught for six years as an Adjunct Faculty, in the Early Childhood Education department, at Naropa University, Boulder, CO. Doreen was our daughter's preschool teacher for a magical 2 years. It's hard to express how happy we are that our daughter had the opportunity to spend her first school years with such a remarkable woman. I have worked in education for 15 years and have never met an educator with the capability, integrity, warmth, patience, and joy that Doreen brought to her classroom day after day. Doreen is the kind of person that inspires and teaches just by being herself--the parents at the school felt so fortunate to have their children with Doreen. She creates an inviting, joyful, safe place for all children to settle in and play and learn. She makes the people around her feel at home; she's grounded and even-keeled without compromising her obvious sense of wonder and joy, and I can't think of a better combination of characteristics for a caregiver. I always feel so enthusiastic when I talk about our experiences with Doreen as our daughter's teacher and now as our friend--we feel so honored to have crossed paths with such a wonderful woman so early on in our years of parenting and will be forever grateful for her presence in our lives. I highly recommend her for any care giving role; young and old alike will be in the best of hands with Doreen.
