About Derartu

I have tutored students at Cherry Hill Elementary School via Reading Partners. Through this organization, I tutored children to help them develop their reading skills, specifically reading comprehension. Through Paul's Place, a non-profit organization in Baltimore, I tutored elementary students in mathematics. Currently, and for about a year now, I take turns with other young adults to babysit children between the ages of two and five, and teach Sunday School classes to children between 6 and 9 years old. I am also interning at the Baltimore Child Abuse Center. I work alongside other interns and staff to serve victims of child abuse. My involvement in the family advocacy department has allowed me to interact with children in the waiting room by reading books and playing games with them prior to their forensic interviews. My calm and friendly character has invited children to feel comfortable around me. I use my personal experiences in life to disciple but also love children.
