About who needs care: My mother is in the middle stages of Alzheimer's. While she does not need major help at this timewith self-care/hygiene related tasks, she has almost no short term memory left. She does remember my dad, and their dog, but does not really remember any other family members (though sometimes she knows she knows us, she just doesn't know how), nor does she remember conversations that just occurred, what she did during the day, whether and what she ate or not, etc. Currently my dad is the primary caregiver and he needs help even just to keep his own mind healthy. We're looking for a companion who could come a few days a week, a few hours a day (we're flexible on days and hours), just to give my dad a break. This person could bring my mom and her dog to the dog park, the grocery store, lunch or an outing, etc. We'd like someone who can do things with her that would have done in the course of her normal life. She's physically healthy and therefore can do activities outside of the house with little to no problem (from a physical standpoint).
About the care needs: The ideal caregiver should be very patient, as they'll be having the same conversation throughout much of the time with my mom. They will know how to interact with Alzheimers patients so as not to make them feel defeated or insecure. They would ideally love dogs as my mom's dog is the main focus of her day :).
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
