THE LOCATION: Beautiful private home six blocks from downtown Placerville. THE CLIENT: Developmentally disabled man, age 57, high functioning, physically healthy, good communicator, sweet. THE SHIFT: The open shift is continuous 43 hours. You can sleep when the client sleeps! One week it is Thurs to Sat, the next week it is Mon to Wed. That means one week you will have six days off, the next week two days off. THE PAY: It is a mix of SDP and IHSS: (SDP 24 hrs x $24/hr) + (IHSS 19 hrs x $16/hr) = $880 gross pay for this shift. THE WORK: Daily two mile walk, shop, cook, laundry, showering, oral hygiene, board games, library trips, movies, eating out, and monitoring for safety. You can lift 20 pounds, walk stairs often, and walk two miles. The client watches a lot of TV. Those are times you can read, do homework, etc.
