About who needs care: My dad has Parkinson's and is getting to the point of having difficulty with simple tasks. He doesn't need any specialized medical care and is good about remembering his medications. He needs help around the house cleaning, vacuuming, watering the lawn, doing laundry, taking out the trash cans, changing the sheets, someone to go for walks with him so he feels confident and secure, grocery shopping with him, helping him dress in the morning and undress in the evening. He has been opposed to help and I'm trying to wean him in to accepting a live in but he will need time to acclimate to someone being around first. I have just a maid service coming in weekly at the moment but they will not help with all the little random things, just clean. I think he will soon see the advantage and companionship is nice. I would like to gradually increase time periods and eventually work out !! He would be most comfortable with a male as there will eventually be dressing and possibly assistance bathing involved. I'd like to keep him at home where he is comfortable as long as possible. He does have a small dog that is hyper but sweet and he is a devout Christian. But to start I would be looking for someone to come in for 4+ hours just on Tuesdays and Thursdays and build from there. These are days that he doesn't have regularly scheduled activities so it's good to have eyes on him. This would be an ideal position for someone looking for flexible part time work as the hours can be worked around your schedule as needed.
About the care needs: You will just need patience and kindness. Be self motivated to look around and see what needs doing. Encourage him to do things. He sits and watches a LOT of TV to the point his boney little butt is getting sore.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
