About who needs care: My husband, Duane, has Parkinsons, Dementia and is very hard of hearing.
He enjoys exercising (playing with the ball, leg exercises, walking up the block when weather permits). Not a lot of interest in tv or reading. Mostly sleeps a lot. Being so hard of hearing doesn't allow for much communication. And he often just says "I don't know" or "what do I do next?".
I would appreciate the caregiver helping him during the night get to the commode (which is right by his bed), getting him up in the morning, dressing him (I can do breakfast), showering twice a week, just being a companion. It would be helpful to have someone help me get him to appointments - he uses a walker.
Duane will be 96 on February 13.
About the care needs: We have had a woman coming Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 to 2:00 and he liked her but I think a man would be better at this point as he falls and is difficult to get him up. I would prefer an middle aged man who is capable of lifting 150 pounds. Duane is quiet but has led quite a life.... was in the Air Force 26 years, went to school and achieved 2 masters and a phd in education. Was a Junior College Counselor and finally quit work at age 76. I would prefer someone who is calm but caring.
I don't know of any special skills they need other than taking care of him. Duane's hobbies and interests were flying... he has had several planes and loved to fly. He had to quit when he couldn't hear ground control anymore.
Services needed include: companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
