About who needs care: My mother is 96 years old and is in very good shape, both physically and mentally. Her only issue is that she is hard of hearing and her hearing aids seem to provide some, but not great, assistance. She lives independently and does everything for herself, except drive. She and I typically walk 1. 5 to 2 miles each day, weather permitting. I am looking for someone who can spend a couple hours a day with her, periodically (typically on Fridays and Saturdays when I am out of town, but not every Friday and Saturday) - to give her some companionship, take her for a long walk (weather permitting) and text me to let me know how she is doing. There also may be some small chores to help her with from time to time, but no real housekeeping (my mother still does all her own housekeeping, including washing her kitchen floor on her hands and knees). In the future, my mother likely will require a greater level of in-home care, but for now it would be primarily companionship and getting her out for a daily walk, 4-8 days a month. Also - I am just beginning to explore bringing in some help - this is not an urgent situation. I would hope to have some arrangement in place by mid- to late October; and my mother would not need any assistance over the Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays, as she will be with me.
About the care needs: My mother is on the shy/quiet side and is very private. She would do best with someone who is gentle and friendly - and not overbearing, boisterous or pushy. My mother is a very good cook and a person who would enjoy cooking/baking with her, when it is not possible to get outside for a long walk, would be good. My mother also enjoys working on jigsaw puzzles and she usually has one in progress.
Services needed include: companionship, and mobility assistance.
