About who needs care: I am looking for a caregiver for my beautiful mother. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with COPD, 4 years ago and has had an aggressive decline ever since. Currently my father is a very health 80-year-old who currently takes care of her. While he is fully capable, this scenario has become very overwhelming.
I am an RN myself but unfortunately live in NY and can only offer support when I fly in. I was just in and have identified the areas in which I think they need the most assistance. She also has demonstrated early signs of vascular dementia. Her short term memory has been affected, but long term is still intact.
With my moms COPD, it is very difficult for her to move around freely, and when she does, she becomes very out of breath. Anything that is simple for us, is a big task for her. She has to space her day accordingly because of the taxing nature of her illness. I would like someone to come in to do laundry, help her get dressed, assist with getting TED stocking on, and setting her up with her circulation pumps. It would also be helpful to do grocery shopping once a week and meal prep for dinner. We can further discuss the structure of the day and what that may look like, but overall I am looking for someone who lives 10 minutes or less away, and who can be flexible, kind, and caring.
About the care needs: My mother is an old school Italian. Unfortunately, a male caregiver would NOT work. She will need a female. My mother can be opinionated at times (old school Italian) but has a heart of gold. She enjoys puzzles, making lists, family photos.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
