About Turk

Experience: 7 yrs

I am an Experienced Caregiver who just returned to the states after a couple years abroad working for the State Department. It is a thrill to return to work I am truly passionate about. I worked in a Level 1 Trauma Center in Virginia until I moved to NYC the end of 2022 where I started doing privatized care, focusing on a specific patient, providing experienced care, mobility assistance, mental and emotional support to patient and caregivers. I know if you're reading this, you have a need that you can't do alone. I am here to help lighten that burden and being an able body with a fresh and positive perspective to your situation. My main purpose is to help people during their journey maintain their dignity, regardless of their diagnosis. Through humor, empathy and compassion, experience and knowledge, I know we can make a great team! I am a non-smoker, and Covid vaccinated. I've worked with several families throughout NYC and they are now like an extension of my family.

We brought Turk on board to care for our 32-year-old son with severe autism after we had exhausted every option we could think of. We hired some of the best psychologists, tried multiple esteemed therapists and specialists, and nothing seemed to help. Our son had refused to shower for over a year. Because he was an adult living independently, we couldn't force him into treatment, and we were getting close to making decisions that we knew would be incredibly traumatic for him and heartbreaking for us. Hiring Turk truly felt like our last hope. I still get goosebumps thinking about the first day I walked him into my son's apartment. The smell was overwhelming, and most people would have immediately wanted to leave. Turk didn't even react. He simply pulled up a chair next to my son and said, "I'm Turk, and we're going to be friends, and we're going to get out of this funk together." For the first time in a long time, my son looked up and gave a glimmer of a smiled. From that moment on, Turk built something no one else had been able to build: trust. He never judged our son. He met him where he was and treated him with kindness, patience, and respect. Turk also wasn't afraid to have honest conversations with us as parents. He helped us understand that while many of our son's struggles were absolutely neurological, some behaviors had unintentionally been reinforced over the years. It was hard to hear, but he was right. No one else had been willing to tell us that. What touched us the most was what happened when we weren't around. We eventually found out that Turk regularly stayed well after the hours we agreed, without ever asking for another dollar. He'd sit with our son, listen to baseball games, talk with him, and simply spend time with him because he genuinely cared. You can't teach that kind of compassion. Eventually, the impossible happened. Our son showered for the first time in over a year. But more importantly, he started reconnecting with the world around him. We got glimpses of the son we thought we had lost. Even after Turk left New York City, he has still maintained a relationship with us and our son via phone calls and texts bi-weekly, and we pray for a visit when he’s in NYC again. Turk didn't just help our son. He gave our entire family hope again. If you're considering hiring Turk, don't hesitate. There are caregivers, and then there are people who are truly called to this kind of work. Turk is one of those rare people. We will be grateful to him for the rest of our lives.
