I started nannying (paid) a year and a half ago, however I have helped care for my nephew from his newborn days to present day; 6 years! I have worked for two families, caring for children from ages 2-11. While with my first family in Indiana, I cared for a very busy 2-year-old boy. We spent our summer together outdoors at the pool, playing at parks, in his sandbox, or indoors learning letters, colors, reading and art! He especially loved reading when we were inside; we went through the majority of his books daily! When we wanted to get out of the house we took special trips to The Children's Museum, The Indianapolis Zoo, and Monkey Joe's. While with this family I was responsible for all of his meals, preparing him for the day, his laundry and dishes. He started school or "Mommy's Afternoon Out," in the fall, so I was responsible for taking him to his class and picking him up. We then moved out of state for my husband's job. I found a new family that consisted of twin 9-year-old boys and an 11-year-old boy. They had a very busy and a very structured schedule; soccer and tennis practices were daily, as well as piano lessons! I was responsible for their mornings; preparing their breakfast, getting them ready, and taking them to school. In the afternoons I also picked them up from school, then prepared an early dinner so we could get to extra curricular activities. On days that practices got rained out or cancelled for other reasons, we spent our time playing basketball outside, going for bike rides or on play dates with their friends! If we ever needed to be inside we played Monopoly or Risk most often. I was also responsible for light housework consisting of the boys laundry, tidying up the living room/kitchen areas, grocery shopping and the occasional dry cleaning! In my spare time I love getting lost in a good book, going for a run with my dog and husband, or playing sports. I consider myself very "outdoorsy" and love to stay busy. If I must be inside, I really enjoy hand-lettering and painting. I am a huge animal advocate and have worked in animal rescue in the past. I have a boxer/lab mix who turns 8 this summer and 2 cats that are 5 and 3; all rescues. I want to return to my local shelter and start volunteering again soon!!
