Experience: 10 yrs
Working with children is a passion of mine. My goal is to enrich the lives of the children I work with by getting to know them, embracing their different personalities and staying in tune with their individual needs. I love playing outdoors, reading, and having fun with hands on creative projects. I am very motivated and I will make sure your kids are not just sitting around watching television. I have 19 years of experience caring for children of all ages from infants to teenagers. I am Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certified, have a valid drivers license and valid food handlers card. I can help with cooking meals as well as weekly meal prep. I am also available for pet sitting and both light and deep cleaning.
Tayari has been our nanny since my daughter was 18 months old – almost five years now. My daughter has autism, and Tayari has done an exemplary job of supporting her in the ways she needs. They've helped me design, organize, implement, and decorate my daughter's bedroom and play area to promote both her physical safety and her love of learning. They've also helped her slowly build the skills and confidence to do things that come naturally to other kids. Just to name a few of those skills: using playground equipment (climbing, sliding, etc.) at the park; talking and playing with other children; self-soothing (like deep breaths and dance parties); recognizing and naming feelings and needs; considering other people's perspectives and feelings. Tayari has always treated her as a full person with valid thoughts, feelings, and opinions – not just a child to be managed. Over the years, they've had days-long, philosophical discussions well suited to my daughter's age. They've taken regular trips to the library to learn about different cultures and different types of families. Over the years, Tayari took on a lot beyond standard nannying — including being flexible with our family's evolving needs. When my daughter started preschool, they picked up hours to help me with the house-cleaning. Last spring, I decided I wanted to conquer my driving phobia, and asked Tayari if they'd be willing to teach me. They were such a calm and supportive teacher that it took me only two months to overcome a two-decade-long fear. In general, Tayari filled in a lot of the gaps in our household beyond childcare — becoming a steady, trusted presence for both my daughter and our home. I always made a point of compensating them fairly for that extra effort rather than treating it as expected, because it was never required — it's just who they are. We're only parting ways because my daughter is starting first grade this fall, and we simply don't have the hours to offer anymore. As my daughter once said, matter-of-factly, "every child deserves a Tayari." I couldn't agree more.
