Stephanie is polite, courteous, and eager to learn about your caregiving needs, routine, and schedule. However, I would not recommend bringing Stephanie on as a full-time member of your caregiving team if you need somebody reliable and punctual. When I hired Stephanie as a permanent part of my caregiving team, she was excited to take on many of my available shifts, including the weekends and evenings, which was great. I was upfront with my skepticism about allowing a single caregiver to have a majority of my available shifts, as it can be difficult to find coverage when someone needs immediate time off due to an illness or time off for other reasons. Regardless, Stephanie assured me that would not be an issue. However, within a few weeks of joining my team of caregivers, she began to call off and requested a large chunk of time off for a summer vacation shortly after starting with me. Nonetheless, I was understanding as she is a single mother and covered the shift she needed off, including for the summer vacation. Approximately a week or two later, Stephanie handed in her two-week notice, a commitment she was unable to honor. She had three days without any caregiving shifts, providing ample opportunity to communicate her inability to continue due to personal circumstances. However, she chose the afternoon before her scheduled shift to inform me via text that she needed to quit immediately. This sudden departure left me in a difficult position, scrambling to find replacement caregivers who were already feeling the strain of filling in for someone so unreliable.
