About Sharon
Experience: 10 yrs
I have 40 years of experience in Math education, both as a teacher and as a curriculum developer. I have worked with a wide range of grade levels, from elementary school to college. I love the opportunity tutoring provides to design a customized program that meets the unique learning style, content needs, and interests of a particular student. My emphasis is on careful diagnosis to identify and address any gaps or weaknesses in prior knowledge, building a strong understanding of concepts and why procedures work, and fostering a student's self-confidence and self-reliance. I can also provide enrichment-and-challenge activities to stretch students' understanding and help them experience the joy and excitement of Math. As an elementary school teacher, I have also taught writing skills (including spelling) and creative writing, and I have led literature discussion groups. In addition, I can help students of any age to develop more effective study skills and organizational strategies.

Wonderful Math Tutor Sharon has been tutoring my son for five years. The instruction he was receiving at his school was very uneven. I picked Sharon because she had an undergraduate degree in math and had taught in elementary, middle and high school. Sharon understands that one size does not fit all. Students approach math problems in different ways. Sharon is very comfortable with this. She is more than patient. She is encouraging and in this way my son has developed the math confidence he needs. What I particularly appreciate is her ability to teach math through real life situations, making it more than just a series of procedures, and always relevant. She comes prepared, knows what she wants to hit, but she is incredibly flexible. You can ask her to cover anything. She doesn't need to go home and prepare a new lesson because she knows math. We have found her to be easy to work with, and worth every penny. Highly recommend her.
