Hello, my name is Shannon. I'm currently enrolled at Community College Of Philadelphia for nursing and I also work as a CNA at Aria Health Hospital. I went to Mercy Vocational High School where I received my CNA license junior year. I started my first job senior year at a skilled nursing home- St Joseph's Villa, where I worked for 4 years. At the Villa, I worked on the third floor which highly specialized with Alzheimer's/dementia patients, terminally ill patients, hospice patients, lay patients. Some of my duties included: bed baths, showers, mouth care, toileting/changing, occupational/physical therapy, therapeutic activities, etc. I always assess my residents and see what they are able to do. I encourage them to do whatever ADL's they are able to, which helps keep them mobile and feel a little more independent! Working at a nursing home for 4 years taught me that patience is key! We have to remember that elderly people where once young and they did not ask for this!

Shannon took care of my father and she did a tremendous job. My mother was extremely pleased with her demeanor, her punctuality, and her caring, kind nature. Even though she only worked with my father for a short period of time due to his passing away, they developed a nice relationship and he took to her immediately. Shannon is the kind of person who should work in this profession, as she is helpful, kind, compassionate and genuine. We will miss her.
