I have worked with a friend in her 90's with Alzheimer's for about one year in her daughter's home. I also nannied for her grandson for about 13 years or so. She was able to dress and bathe herself, but needed assistance with everyday tasks and often repeated her questions and needed someone to reassure her that things were okay. I really enjoyed hearing her stories about her children and taking her out to get her hair done and go grocery shopping. I would make lunch and breakfast for her, visit, read, watch old TV shows, and go outside with her often. Making sure she was safe and giving her reassurance was very important to me. She loved meeting my children and hearing funny stories about them. Patience, kindness, and friendship were what she needed most and I was so happy to be able to provide her with that. I hope to be able to help another family in need soon!
