About Roberta

My family hired Roberta for companion care for my then 89 year old mom. Eventually as my mom's needs changed Roberta provided professional aid as well until my mom passed. Roberta was with her/us for about 1 year. Over the last 10 years we have hired many aids for our parents for both short and longer periods. Roberta, and a colleague she brought in later when my mom needed more help, were by far the best aides/companions we ever hired. My mom was initially resistant to having help as she was a very strong, self-reliant individual. Roberta has a strong emotional intelligence and understood my mom's hesitation at inviting someone into her home and life. She knew how to slowly ingratiate herself at a pace my mom could accept balancing respecting my mom's dignity with attending to the needs that my mom could not see. Eventually they became close friends and developed a strong bond. Roberta became part of our family and was with us at my mom's bedside when she peacefully passed. Roberta has all the technical skills required to provide professional aide and companion care. So do many others listed on care.com. What distinguishes Roberta is both her sense of obligation to the person she is caring for - it is not just a job - and importantly the skills to adapt as needed to form a bond with that person to make what can be a difficult circumstance feel natural, comfortable and positive for all involved.
