I grew up with dogs my whole life; I am totally a dog person. When a dog passed our way when I was growing up, I was the one who always brought it home. I have had two golden retrievers, a cockapoo, a part golden lab/sherpherd mix, a terrier, and a short haired mini dachshund. I have for the past 9 years, had a male long haired dachshund who is my baby. My two sons are gone, one in California, other one last year in BC. My dog is like a son to me. I also took care of the woman who I was a caregiver for daughter's dogs on and off for 1 year when she traveled. She has an Italian Bull Massive who was like a lamb, and a Jack Russell who was also a doll, both females. My pets have always been an important part of my family and treated like a family member. Your dog or dogs would be cared for the same.
