Where do I begin to be grateful to Pam for the amazing love and care she gave to my mom for the last 3 years. Would I rehire Pam? A resounding YES! Pam arrived and we were a mess. We had had almost a dozen aides come through in various capacities. She walked in and it was a true Mary Poppins moment, where the house magically got straightened out with clean sheets, cooked meals, washed hair, and most of all she told us about a hoyer lift. The aide we had before her had been letting us lift my mom and we were pretty injured by that point. Pam came in life a breath of fresh air. She rolled up her sleeves and got right to helping trouble shoot any and all problems we were having. Teaching us about using boots to avoid bedsores and how to properly roll and wash mom. How to avoid rashes and proper bed making and pad using techniques. Pam is an expert aide with incredible experience and she does it with incredible ease. She took over making my mom's meals which was such a relief for me. She kept my mom so clean that every single person, every one, came in and said "this is the cleanest patient I have ever seen". from nurses to visitors. From the day she arrived, to the week my mom passed, my mom was the cleanest patient you have ever seen. My mom was able to be kept at home safely and with pure love. Pam danced with my mom even though she was bed bound at some point. The pure joy on my mom's face every time Pam walked in the room was astounding. My mom had alzheimers but she somehow always knew when Pam arrived and even felt comfort when I would say "your favorite nurse is coming":. We called everyone who came in nurses, it seemed to give my mom comfort. But my mom got most excited by "her favorite nurse". Nothing but smiles on her face. When you walked in the room you'd see a clean bed, clean mom, well fed, thoroughly hydrated, teeth brushed, hair combed mom. At some point I started needing more time off. Pam happily took the days. She would say "Don't worry, I know you worry". and I would say "Pam, I haven't worried a minute since you got here". And I hadn't. Pam is that aide who will always take your mom for walks, always make sure they are clean and tidy. Always give them hugs and make them feel safe. Always show them personal love and caring. She doesn't miss a beat. The technical side: Pam took vitals, gave medications as directed, used the hoyer lift with ease, washed my mom with complete ease, made a bed so amazing that my mom always looked like she was on a cloud, prevents bed sores like an expert, prevents rashes and uses a combo of fresh air and powder to keep the skin clean, makes and feeds meals, shows you tricks of the trade so you can feel more secure that you are doing a great time taking care of your parent. Like every aide, the medications require directions and follow up. We kept a log book of all meals, medications, even bowel movements so that every shift knew what the other was doing. Pam filled in the book daily, often making sure my sister and I filled in our part. The teamwork was just incredibly helpful. She taught us how to have regular checkins and weekly meetings so that we were all always on the same page. Just an incredible person. We could not have asked for a better aide.
