When my father was moved to a rehab/nursing facility after having a stroke, I would read the news and sports pages to him on days he had trouble holding the newspaper and help feeding him his meals. On occasions I would play some of his favorite music for him in the background while telling him the latest updates with the family (my daughter's activities in college and his nephew who was playing basketball for the '76ers at that time). Several years after my father passed, I became the primary caregiver for my father-in-law who had several maladies (cancer, diabetes and heart disease) which sent him back & forth to the hospital, rehab center & home. I assisted him with his insulin shots when they were prescribed so that he could administer them himself, prepared meals the days he was unable to do so, accompanied him to Dr. appointments, made pharmacy runs, and made sure he had his newspaper, magazines and remote nearby. *** Note - Comfortable with dogs, but allergic to cats. ***
