About Merrie

Experience: 10 yrs

With over 30 years of experience in caregiving, I have honed my skills and nurtured a deep passion for providing compassionate support to those in need. My journey began with raising three children, caring for my mother who has a lung disease, adults with autism and special needs, tending to both grandparents with early onset dementia. I have cared for stroke survivors, one struggling with aphasia. My approach is built on kindness, patience, and a heartfelt commitment to making others' lives better. I bring a positive attitude, always striving to create a warm and nurturing environment for those under my care. I understand the importance of tailoring my techniques to meet each client's unique needs. I am willing to learn new methods and approaches to ensure their comfort and well-being. My caregiving experiences, and my genuine nature and willingness to adapt, make me a reliable and compassionate caregiver ready to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I serve.

It is my privilege to recommend her to you. Merrie has taken wonderful care of my aunt and cousin. My aunt, age 91, and her 66-year-old daughter moved to Texas in 2022 to be closer to family. My cousin would have loved to be the one to take care of her mom back in Maryland, but unfortunately, she had a stroke in 2020 and no longer has the use of her right arm and leg. She also suffers from aphasia which makes it challenging for her to communicate her thoughts. After a couple of major health scares earlier this summer, they finally agreed to move to Austin. Sadly, not long after their arrival, my aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I work full time and have high school juniors and so we needed a caregiver to provide additional support. Merrie performed a variety of activities for my aunt and cousin including light housekeeping, errands to the grocery store, medical appointments and literally whatever was needed. She prepared and served their dinner and made sure the kitchen was spotless when she was done. She also made sure that meals were prepped for the time periods when she wasn’t there, such as breakfast and lunch. She did all of these things for both of them up until my aunt’s death in March. Now Merrie helps my cousin in her new apartment. My cousin accompanies Merrie to the grocery store, which is a treat for her to get out of the house. She moves very slowly due to her disability, but Merrie has great patience and they make it a fun outing. Merrie has also quickly learned how to communicate very effectively with my cousin, and she comforts her when she's not able to fully express herself in the way that she would like. Merrie truly lives up to her name - she is jovial and is a wonderful companion and a great conversationalist. She is kind and caring, and very respectful of her client’s unique quirks. She is also reliable and trustworthy, which is critical for a successful relationship where we are trusting someone with our loved ones. While we wish we could employ Merrie full time, finances limit us to only a part time schedule. I hope that you will seriously consider Merrie for your caregiver position.I am confident that you will be as happy with Merrie's work as we are. Please feel free to contact me should you want to discuss anything further. Sincerely, Angie H
