I have been a special education teacher for students with both physical and cognitive challenges for years. Mayra was one of the Healthcare Assistants in my classroom. In this role, she assisted students with academics, skills of daily living (mealtime and hygiene/diaper care) and mobility (getting students out of wheelchair and in to standers and gait trainers); in addition she provided medical care for students with complex needs such as seizure first aid, breathing treatments, and g-tube feedings. Her care, compassion, and professionalism was evident in the way she worked with each student. She was defined an asset to the classroom team. I was sad when she left the classroom and so were the students. She is an excellent care taker.
