I've had the privilege of working with people who have Multiple sclerosis and seniors who require additional assistance. I can prep/cook meal. I can help with dressing/driving to appointments, all the machinal things I can do. But what I love most with working with people is listening and being present. Being engaged in the conversation and making them feel valuable and heard. The simple act of helping someone put on thier clothes is not just putting an arm into a sleeve, it's about being patient and seeing if the person even require your assistance. Reading the room and their temperament that day also plays a key role in being a good caregiver. The person needs to feels like they have their autonomy but also supported and guidanced . It's not easy to let someone into your private life and ask them for help. So when I work along side someone who require additional assistance I feel honored that someone feel they can trust me with very personal matters.
