About Maria

Maria worked as a personal aide to my mother for almost 10 years. Until my mother’s recent death, Maria tirelessly served her in her apartment residence at Greenspring, a retirement community in Springfield. She aspires to do her best in any given situation. I was amazed to see Maria learn English in a relatively short period of time. She familiarized herself with the very large Greenspring campus, along with all of its various amenities, and therefore, made sure that my mother was aware of and attended classes, special presentations and meetings and enjoyed the special things the campus had to offer. Maria always takes the initiative. If she felt Mom needed something, she would pursue it. If she could not do it herself, she let the leadership at Greenspring know or contacted our family. Maria was truly Mom’s advocate. In fact, while under Mom’s employ, Maria went to school and obtained her CNA - certified nursing assistant license, to learn how to provide an even higher level of care for Mom. She essentially worked for Mom during the day and went to school at night, and even under this demanding schedule, provided excellent care for Mom. Simply put, Maria is a professional. I was constantly thanking her for the detailed care she provided, as she left no stone unturned. Maria always performed over and above the norm. When Mom had to have occupational and physical therapy, Maria shadowed the therapists, learning the therapy exercises so well that they left Maria equipment to use when Mom was not in therapy formally. These skills that Maria acquired paid great dividends during the multiple COVID lockdowns that Greenspring implemented. Because Maria had learned so much about Mom’s therapy, she was able to work with Mom during lockdowns that affected the therapists’ ability to be on campus. Maria is skilled in administering Quell treatments, an electronic impulse device designed for pain relief without medication. These treatments brought Mom such relief from the chronic pain she suffered from. Greenspring staff commonly told me what a good aide Maria is. This says a lot considering that they have their own in-house aide staff. Whenever complimented by anyone, Maria would always humbly say, “It’s my job.” Some of Maria’s most defining characteristics are her enthusiasm for her job and life in general, her dedication to the patient’s every need, and her genuine love for those she cares for. She was not only Mom’s caretaker, but truly her friend as she took her outside to be in nature, played checkers and other games with Mom, and brightened her day with lively conversations. Generally, with the exception of Mom’s nap time, Maria kept Mom occupied with puzzles and other activities that encourage mental alertness. Maria is a great organizer, hard working, and diligent. Her loyalty is astounding. She never flinched about reporting to duty each day during the height of COVID outbreaks at Greenspring. Always being concerned about Mom’s comfort, Maria dispensed her daily medication, administered excellent shower care, and provided excellent hygiene care in general. As a plus, she always had Mom so well adorned that people on the campus, who did not actually know Mom, often referred to her as the lady who always looks so nice. I highly recommend Maria for any health care job opportunity! I feel certain that she will provide the excellent care she provided for my mother.
