I’m a physical therapist, as is my wife. We were live-in caregivers for a man with a high level (C4) spinal cord injury for several years. Litia was the last caregiver for Dave. We trained her. We remained friends with Dave until he passed away just before COVID hit. We had many opportunities to observe her care giving skills. They are of the highest quality in our opinion. Dave was always her first priority. She was attentive to his every need. She was observant of any changes in skin condition or other health related issues and too appropriate steps in dealing with them. When he was admitted to the hospital for short stays, she was there daily to take care of his needs and was an advocate for whatever Dave needed. She made sure Dave always looked good. The house was always clean and the yard well cared for. She treated Dave like family and in my conversations with Dave, he felt like she was family. People with Dave’s injury usually don’t have a normal life span. I’m convinced that Dave’s quality of life was as good as it could be because of the care and friendship provided by Litia. People with Dave’s injury usually don’t have a normal life span. I’m convinced that Dave was able to live into his 80’s because of the care and friendship provided by Litia.
