My grandmother lived in an assisted living home for 6 years. I saw first hand the challenges of caring for someone who was both holding on to their dignity and independence, and who had become physically and mentally unable to do so on their own. It is overwhelming for family and a full time caregiver. My grandmother was very stubborn and refused many necessary services such as bathing and help in the bathroom. I'm not afraid to stay and help them when they refuse if I know they need it. Safety is a Big concern. I also understand their need for respect. I Never speak to an adult like they are a child, no matter their ability. I have experience working with Dementia, Alzheimers, Stroke Recovery, Rehabilitation with PT's and OT's, Parkinson's, Depression and Anxiety, Special Needs, and Medicine Administration. Thank you!
