We first met and contacted Kelly through our nanny search on Care.com in August 2012. Although Kelly has only been with us a few short months (we are moving cross country), we hold her in the highest regard. A professional child caregiver/nanny is an incredibly challenging career and the personal skills and talent necessary is something often undervalued in this field. Kelly has met and exceeded our expectations as a professional child care provider. Kelly has always been very punctual and ready to work on arrival. Some mornings it is just craziness getting ready for work and getting two small children ready. Kelly is someone who will come in, take charge, and finish getting the kids up, dressed, and fed. She speaks to the children respectfully and does not talk down to them. Family rules and boundaries are fairly, but firmly enforced and there has always been an open line of communication both oral and written. Suggestions, activities of the day, possible issues/problems, and resolutions are always clearly conveyed to us over the phone, in person, or in a written daily journal. The kids do not sit and watch TV - they are active and encouraged to use their imaginations. We recently had a rocket ship constructed from a diaper box stationed in our playroom. They also go to the park and get outside when the weather allows. Age appropriate chores, cleaning up toys, and manners are also enforced. Our son can be head-strong and stubborn and Kelly has great patience and skill with working to help him learn how to recognize, control, and handle his emotions and frustrations - a very difficult thing for a 3 year old. She is also very good with our almost 1 year old daughter. She is always very excited to see her in the mornings and receives plenty of one-on-one time, holding, and attention. Diaper changes, feedings, naps, and all of the day to day routines important in an infant's life are adhered to and amended as developmentally appropriate. Although we primarily hired Kelly as a caregiver for our children, she has been an enormous help in our household management. She has saved us countless hours in doing household chores such as vacuuming, dishes, bathrooms, floors, and the never ending laundry. We make a lot of our meals from scratch and she has also been a tremendous help with food prep and making homemade baby food. Kelly requires no hand holding and is a very capable and industrious person. She is dependable, honest, caring, and would be a great addition to a busy family and household. My family and I will miss her dearly. We are so sad that we cannot pack her up and take her as well.
