I've been a nanny for newborns, infants, toddlers & every other age group from birth to near-adulthood. I've been babysitting since I was 11 & a nanny throughout high school & college. I was also a camp counselor at a sleep-away camp for many years. Watching 8-10 7-year-old girls every moment of the day & night for 2 weeks is definitely an exercise in patience & sanity, but I genuinely like children. They're more honest & interesting than most adults. I have four younger siblings + 12 nieces & nephews & a photography company that primarily focuses on outdoor family portraits. My philosophy for working with children has always hinged on being consistent. I want kids to have fun & laugh & play, but I can set boundaries. I never tell a child that I'm going to do anything (good or bad) that I'm not prepared to do, from a special treat to literally turning the car around. I prioritize honesty because it fosters trust & I can't help or fix or care for anything that I'm not aware of.
