I acquired my caregiving/companioning skills by assisting mom in caring for my Dad. He had Parkinson's for almost 40 years. My experience and skills in caregiving, are from the years of watching Mom, and my hands-on approach in caring for him. After covid, I reinvented myself as a caregiver. I do not hold formal certifications. My greatest skill is listening, being present for someone. I assist with hygiene, dressing, meds, transportation, meal prep etc. I've had clients for durations as long as 21/2 years, and many more in between that length of time. I received all the clients I've had through referrals and do not belong to an agency. If I need care when I'm older, I would hope that I could find someone with my moral compass, to hold the dignity of the person, we all deserve, no matter the state of life in which we find ourselves. I really love engaging people and hearing their stories. Even if I have to listen to the same story everyday... I can provide references upon request.
