I value your philosophy as a parent and will ensure we work well together. Children are thirsty to know more about their world, and I am comfortable allowing them to explore their world with adults as facilitators of their discoveries. I see difficult moments and meltdowns as an opportunity to grow a child's emotional toolkit. Punitive "time-outs," in my view, break bonds of trust between children and adults; this can inadvertently tell a child that there is something inherently wrong with how they are rather than how they behave. However, I encourage children to acknowledge when they need space and give them the power and voice to express that safely. I believe that trust is key when interacting with young people. Along with trust, I believe that strong boundaries, honesty, and frankness (age-appropriate and always discussed with you as a parent first and foremost) are also important when interacting with children.
