Our father was diagnosed in August with late stage pancreatic cancer which progressed quite rapidly. We hired Jennifer as our first caregiver in September when Dad was resisting the crushing loss of independence and mobility. We were nervous about bringing in a caregiver and giving up that level of trust to someone else but Jennifer's references were excellent as was our interview with her. What an amazing soul and talented clinical caregiver and CNA. Jennifer brought an unparalleled level of calm, grace and much needed skill to Dad and to all of us. Dad passed away this weekend and we are so thankful for Jennifer's ability to help him and us navigate the unexpected effects of the disease. Jennifer took on weekday care 9a-9p (Mon-Fri) which was we are sure exhausting. She was ALWAYS punctual, always patient and kind, but also firm when she needed to have Dad understand what was best for him. Jennifer has seen much in the many years with her clients and was able to gently share what she had learned with Dad and us so that we were better equipped to handle all the changes, and then how to embrace all that hospice could offer as well. In the early weeks, Jennifer made sure he was steady on his feet, was taking his correct meds (of which there were many), made meals, ensure the house remained tidy, helped him get dressed, dealt with diarrhea and cleaning, and encouraging him to be outside on the deck or legs up to best be comfortable. As his body weakened, she ensured he was safe, executed his needs and requests, that we were ordering the correct supplies, and assisted at chemo treatment and with radiation. When he entered hospice, her experience was invaluable helping us to understand how best to leverage hospice's amazing support from supplies, ordering meds, questions for the hospice nurse, and making Dad comfortable. He/we trusted Jennifer absolutely, and she was able to move him, bathe, tend, comfort, feed, and medicate him with a grace that is unparalleled. We are so blessed and grateful that Jennifer was with us on this hard journey for over 2 months. Her skill and professionalism is only surpassed by her grace and compassion. Thank you Jennifer for giving Dad so mcuh when the smallest moments meant everything.
