About Jan

I tutor ACT and SAT English and reading test prep. I've helped students improve their ACT English scores by 7 points and more. I also teach writing. I've guided dozens of students through successful application essays to highly selective schools. Students come to me for help with school papers or English skills. I'm a grammar nerd. I have a BFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College and an MS in Journalism from Ohio University. I draw from both backgrounds. I previously taught college English and interpersonal communications and tutored elementary and high school kids. I've even taught preschool. I engage students by treating them as equal partners. As the mother of a struggling student wrote to me: I am seeing (my son)'s confidence grow with each session with you. What a gift you have to be able to pull that out of a kid. It's my honor and privilege to watch students mature and take pride in their ability to master challenges.
