I truly understand the importance of the role of 'caretaker' for a loved one. I was a caretaker for my elderly mother for many years until she passed. She was a type II diabetic, and suffered from arthritis and asthma. I took her shopping, Dr. visits, prepared her medications for the week and monitored that meds are taken. I also cleaned her home, laundry and prepared her meals. I also monitor her glucose readings several times a day. I also have 28 years of experience with type I diabetes. I am very comfortable with glucose testing and drawing insulin doses. I believe that anyone who takes on the responsibility of being a caretaker should treat their clients as if they were a loved family member. A person must have compassion, patience & empathy to relate to your client.
