I always approach a new pet friend by offering my hand to sniff and wait the the pet to come to me and don't believe in scooping up a pet for petting but more in inviting the pet to come over. If I need to take the pet to vet appointments or anything like that, I would use a doggy seat belt or fit a crate in the back of my Suv. I love dog walking, too.
