About Erika

We had the privilege of having Erika work as our nanny from May 2020 to May 2022. She cared for our son from about 18 months to 3.5 years old. As soon as our son met her he was delighted, instantly learning her name and eager to play. Erika was an incredibly loving, patient, and trustworthy person who worked with us to raise a very happy and loving child. Erika started with us at the height of the pandemic. She was always very professional, including related to all aspects of helping to keep our home safe during Covid-19. She helped our son to mask starting as young as 18 months old. She was always willing to get recommended vaccinations and to honestly let us know if she wasn’t feeling well while never using an excess of sick time. She was also easily able to adapt to a work environment in which one parent was working from home as well. It was delightful to hear her laughing with our child throughout the day! Erika has a strong bond with our son. They laughed and played together and he still thinks of her fondly. She has a particular balance of energy and calm. She was very skilled at not reacting to toddler tantrums which helped our son to settle down when he got frustrated or angry. Even with this calm demeanor she has a lot of energy for play, walks, and small adventures - indeed, she quickly got our son taking longer walks without the stroller after she started caring for him. We particularly appreciated that Erika is perfectly fluent in both English and Spanish and valued her using both with our son. Erika is an excellent communicator with adults as well as children. She always let us know promptly if she had any concerns about our son. Similarly, it was easy for us to give her small feedback on a regular basis. She was always open to learning about how we parent and willing to share her approaches with us as well. She was very respectful of our parenting choices, including the fact that we do not have a television and did not allow any screen time for him until he was older. We collaborated to find the best approaches to helping our son through phases like tantrums or helping him to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables. Erika actually led the way through potty training! We trust Erika with our son in any setting I can imagine. She is a good driver, and would regularly take our son on outings or to visit her home and family with our permission (a huge help when he was so isolated early in the pandemic!). She was glad to take him to any lessons we arranged (soccer, music, etc) and would let us know what interested him most and what was worth continuing. Erika also helped our family a great deal in other ways. She was always willing to do a load of laundry, turn over the dishwasher, or take out the trash. She always picked up any mess after a day of play. It was an incredible help to know that she could pitch in in these ways to help our household function. Erika is a true gem. It was such a joy to have her nanny for us. We give her the highest possible recommendation.
