About Emily

Dear prospective parents and students, My name is Emily, and I specialize in English, writing and special needs tutoring for all ages (ages 5-18). In addition to having much experience in tutoring, I also have a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and Art Therapy from Notre Dame De Namur University in Belmont, CA. My counseling training provides me with the clinical expertise necessary to work with children with special needs ranging from ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and/or other learning and behavioral challenges. Over the past decade, I have gained extensive experience in tutoring, teaching and mentoring. I formally worked as a private tutor for Fog City Tutoring in the Bay Area. I taught English to elementary age students at the Peninsula JCC in Foster City, CA, and in Seoul, South Korea for one school year as well. In addition, I mentored pre-teen and teenage youth in a literacy program in East St. Louis, MO. for five years during my undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis. I have special strengths in English, writing, and oral presentations. I scored a 750 (out of 800) on my English SAT and a nearly perfect score (790/800) on my SAT II for writing as well. In addition to my tutoring, teaching, mentoring and counseling training, I am also a certified Mindful Schools teacher, trained in Mindfulness education for youth. Teaching children basic Mindfulness techniques can provide beneficial tools for increasing attention, focus and relaxation. My style is generally soft-spoken, but firm, and I love teaching students through creativity, art and fun as well! I hope to work with you soon to help you in whatever ways you need!
