Before I switched careers to Nursing, I did post graduate work in Deaf Education. Due to a glut of teachers in 1983, I returned to college and earned my BSN in Nursing. As a Pediatric RN for 30 years, I taught nursing students during 1:1 Pediatric Clinical. This involved teaching the students how to relate to hospitalized young cancer patients, in order to allay their fears of painful procedures. Thus, I was responsible for teaching technical, psychological and pedagogical skills to the nursing students. In my current employment at Island Health Care's TestMV site, I have been the Lead Clinical Observer for almost two years. I've been responsible for training all staff and volunteers to become certified Covid Testers. Further teaching experience was that for several years I was responsible for my son's bilingual education, in that only Portuguese was spoken at home, while he was schooled in English at his Montessori school throughout his youth.
