About Debra

Hello, I'm Debra, I tutor grades 2-8th in Lang. Arts in homes and at the library for over 13 years. I am a semi-retired teacher. I have a BA in Liberal Studies/Ed with a minor in Educational Psych from San Jose State University. I am bilingual in Spanish with medium fluency. I am published in poetry and Children's Lit. My strength is in English Language Arts, though I tutor in other subjects as well. In addition, I've had my own company; The Language Workshop where I designed and implemented a 12 week program to develop and improve English literacy through all 4 mediums of language to ESL employees with great success. My teaching philosophy uses positive reinforcement with a student-centered approach to initiate success-oriented challenges to develop confidence & to experience the success & fun in learning. We usually address HW first, assessment & supplementary work provided. Ref & referrals available. I look forward to understanding your child's learning needs & goals.
