Experience: 10 yrs
My specialized care journey started in residential care in the Deafblind program at Perkins School for the Blind, where I learned how to structure an environment for accessibility, livability, and enrichment for kids and younger adults (ages 8-22 years) with differing needs. I loved the focus on daily wellness, teaching gross/fine motor skills, arts and crafts, and activities of daily living. I stayed in special and art education until my Masters in Fine Arts began in 2022, working as a classroom teacher in nursery and pre-k, elementary and middle school. Recently, I returned to teaching to complete a Teaching Artist Residency through Arts for Learning MA, where I spent the year teaching art in two moderate disability cohorts at Lawrence High. As a teacher with combined ADHD and learning disabilities too, it was incredibly rewarding. My goal is to begin a M. Ed program in moderate disability for my initial teaching licensure by 2027.
