I also believe that my psychology education helps me understand someone's circumstances and their emotions so that I can give the right support and encouragement. My initial experience comes from helping to care for my grandmother. Since then I have gained 2 years of companion experience (and been adopted into a family:) while helping a senior lady with dementia - assisting with mobility, personal care, medication, light meal prep and housekeeping. But most important was the time we spent talking, laughing, making her feel special.... helping her enjoy each day with dignity.
